Looking for pantry organization ideas that actually work in real life? When we bought this house, I was so excited about the pantry. It’s large, has a beautiful pantry door, and six full shelves, the kind of space you immediately picture perfectly organized jars, baskets, and everything having a place. But once we actually moved in, I realized something quickly: a big pantry doesn’t automatically mean a functional one. At first, things were just placed wherever they fit. Bags half-open, snacks stacked on top of each other, and ingredients I forgot I even had. It looked fine from the outside, but day-to-day it wasn’t working the way I wanted it to. I wanted our pantry to feel cozy, intentional, and easy to maintain, organized in a way that supports everyday life. That’s when I leaned into a Home Edit–inspired approach to pantry organization, and it completely changed the space.
Pantry Organization Ideas and Products I Swear By
OXO Food Storage Containers
If there’s one pantry product I’ll always recommend, it’s OXO containers. They’re airtight, stack beautifully, and make everything feel instantly more put together. I use them for: Flour, Sugar (white & brown), Rice, Pasta, Baking staples, Snacks we buy in bulk.
Clear containers make it easy to see what you have (and what you’re running low on), which has helped cut down on overbuying and food waste. Having everything organized made baking so much more enjoyable, especially once I got deep into my sourdough journey. They also make the shelves feel lighter and less cluttered compared to mismatched boxes and bags. Type A girls DREAM!

Lazy Susans (For Easy Access)
Lazy Susans are one of those things you don’t realize you need until you have them, and then you want them everywhere! I use them for:
- Oils and vinegars
- Sauces
- Nut butters
- Canned products
- Smaller jars
Being able to spin the shelf instead of pulling everything out makes such a difference, especially on deeper shelves. This small change made our pantry feel way more functional almost instantly.

Baskets & Bins (Keeping the Chaos Controlled)
Not everything in a pantry needs to be perfectly uniform (even for my Type A brain). That’s where baskets and bins come in. These are my go-to solution for keeping the CONTROLLED CHAOS contained. I use backets to group:
- Snacks
- Nuts
- Granola
- Baking supplies
- Random pantry items that don’t quite “match”
Instead of letting these items spread across shelves, everything has a designated home. You can toss things in, pull a basket down when you need it, and put it back without disrupting the entire pantry.
I also have a large basket with a lid at the bottom of our pantry, specifically for onions and potatoes. This has been one of my favorite additions. It keeps them out of the way, off the counter and in a dark, ventilated space. The basket is easy to grab from when cooking and hides the visual clutter of produce that never looks pretty sitting out.
Storage Bag Organizer (Underrated but So Useful)
This is one of those items that doesn’t get enough credit. A storage bag organizer keeps zip-top bags neat, visible, and easy to grab. No more digging through a messy drawer or half-open boxes.
I love that it:
- Keeps sizes separated
- Saves drawer space
- Looks clean and intentional
It’s a small upgrade that makes everyday tasks feel smoother.

I skipped labels initially to keep things simple, but I can see how they’d add clarity. Especially if multiple people are using the pantry. Uniform labels would also elevate the overall look and make everything feel even more intentional.

This pantry system works because it’s flexible. It looks organized, functions well, and doesn’t require constant upkeep to stay that way. My goal wasn’t perfection, it was creating a space that makes daily life easier and more enjoyable.
