If you’re looking for moving day essentials, I’ve got you. My husband and I had been looking to purchase a home for over a year. Most weekends were spent at open houses, driving around towns, and refreshing Zillow more times than I’d like to admit. We put in seven offers over the course of that year, and each time we got the call that it wasn’t accepted, it was heartbreaking. Here’s everything that made our moving day more organized and less stressful.
The Emotional Rollercoaster of Putting in Offers
Putting in offers on houses was one of the most emotionally confusing experiences I’ve ever had.
Each time we found a house we liked, there was this constant internal battle between protecting our hearts and letting ourselves feel excited. You didn’t want to get too attached because there was a good chance you wouldn’t get it. But at the same time, you had to let yourself get excited because… hello, buying a house in 2025/2026 is not cheap! It’s emotional, it’s terrifying, and it’s a huge financial commitment.
Every offer felt like holding your breath for days. You replay the showing in your head, imagine where your couch would go (especially dangerous with ChatGPT), and picture your routines there. Then, when the call came saying you didn’t get it, it felt like starting completely over.
On top of that, my husband had just started a new job and was commuting two days a week, staying with his family. Our routine was already disrupted, and it felt like life was in constant flux. Everything was a little unsettled. That’s what made getting this house feel even more meaningful, it wasn’t just the house itself, it was stability again.
When the Cardinals Flew Over My Car
The weekend we went to see the house we ended up buying, something felt different. While driving there, two cardinals flew directly over my car. Cardinals have always felt like a sign from my mom and brother, and in that moment, I had this overwhelming sense of calm. I remember thinking, maybe this is it.
And it was.
The house was everything we had been looking for: three bedrooms, move-in ready, minimal work needed, and in a town with a cute downtown that instantly felt like home. It also had a big yard, which was a non-negotiable for our two dogs.
When our realtor called and told us our offer was accepted, I felt two emotions simultaneously: complete relief and complete panic. Like… wait, this is real? It felt like those memes where people move into a house and sit on the floor because they can’t afford furniture.

The Moving Chaos
Between our third-floor 700-square-foot apartment, a garage full of wedding gifts, and two storage units filled with furniture and sentimental items from my mom’s house, we had accumulated a lot more than we realized.
To give you a sense… my entire SUV and the bed of a truck were completely full of empty boxes when we moved. Thank God we found a dump closeby!
As someone with a very Type A brain, I immediately turned to Amazon to find anything that would make the moving process feel more organized, manageable, and less stressful. These are the Amazon moving essentials that genuinely saved my sanity.
Once the boxes were unpacked, the next challenge was figuring out what we actually needed for our new space, here are the first home must haves that made the biggest difference.
Moving Day Essential #1: Color Coded Moving Labels
If you buy one thing from this list, make it this.
These color coded room labels made unpacking so much easier. Instead of writing “kitchen” 500 times with a Sharpie, I could just stick a label on and know exactly where everything belonged. This was especially helpful because we had movers bringing things in, and they could immediately see where each box needed to go.
Honestly, some of our storage bins in the basement still have the stickers on them, and I know I’ll find one in five years and laugh.
Why they’re worth it:
- Speeds up unpacking
- Keeps everything organized
- Helps movers place items in the correct room
- Reduces stress immediately

Moving Day Essential #2: Heavy Duty Packing Tape
I cannot stress this enough: you will run out of packing tape. And it will happen at the worst possible moment.
We went through so many rolls between boxes, reinforcing bottoms, and last-minute packing. Having a bulk pack on hand saved multiple late night melt downs.
Moving Day Essential #3: Permanent Markers
You’ll be labeling everything: boxes, bags, random containers… and you’ll end up with markers everywhere. I had them in my purse, my car, all over the apartment while packing, and I’m still finding them months later.
Honestly, I wish I had counted how many boxes we packed, just to give you an idea of the chaos.

Other Moving Essentials You’ll Want
Other Amazon essentials that made our move so much easier include extra-large moving bags for clothes and bedding, clear storage bins for first-night essentials, box cutters, and mattress bag. I’ve put all of my favorite moving items together in one Amazon list for you to make your move a little less stressful.

Hiring Movers: What I Learned
We decided to hire movers since we were moving across state lines and had larger furniture.
My biggest advice: avoid going through third-party broker companies if possible.
The communication between the original company and the actual movers was very disconnected. The morning of the move, they called and said they weren’t sure if delivery would happen the same day, and my stress levels instantly skyrocketed.
Once they arrived, I felt like an airport traffic controller, directing each piece of furniture and box to the correct room.
Thankfully, everything worked out, and nothing was broken. Huge win.
Bonus Moving Tips That Saved My Sanity
- Take a moment to sit with your spouse. My husband and I sat on our living room floor right after we got the official keys, drank warm champagne out of red Solo cups we took from the office where we signed our closing documents, and just let it sink in.
- Plan for your dogs. My dad took our dogs for a few days, which made the move less stressful.
- Wifi/Router: Try to have it delivered on your arrival day so you can get settled faster.
- Clean Before You Move In: Luckily, our house was spotless when we arrived. For Type A people like me, this made unpacking much more enjoyable. I didn’t have to worry about cleaning, just organizing.

Things No One Tells You About Moving
Moving is emotional. Exciting. Stressful. Overwhelming. Expensive.
There are moments where you question everything. But there’s also something really special about unlocking your front door for the first time and knowing it’s yours. Sitting on the floor, surrounded by boxes, with your dogs running around the yard for the first time. Slowly turning a house into your home.
And while Amazon moving supplies won’t remove all the stress, they will make the process feel more manageable and organized.
